This week the helper got to draw for a fun activity to do for the day and choose the book. It's favorites week! Monday- did puzzles at the table, did a following directions coloring activity. Tuesday- language group, cut out numbers and put them in order- Messy Night. Wednesday- count and match number dice paper, wrote number 10 in journal and did a free drawing. Thursday- color by number picture, magnets science activity. May 24- water day- see flier below 26- last day of school Monday- Lydia's birthday (yesterday), ocean/not ocean animal sort, read Weird Sea Creatures, compared greater than/less than, did addition and subtraction practice. Tuesday- language group (found sea creatures in a tub of water beads and described them), read Sharks or Dolphins, painted a fish with celery scales, counted fish and wrote number. Wednesday- watercolor painted ocean picture, read about sea turtles, wrote numbers 8 and 9 in journal, did a symmetry octopus drawing in journal. Thursday- made a scuba diver, colored fish for the bulletin board, read The Bravest Fish, fished for rhyming words, did Magic Milk science experiment. The kids had fun playing with balloons in the gym and liked painting rocks and the wall with water at recess. It was a HOT week!! May

Wednesday- color by dinosaur color sheet, read Just Another Ordinary Day, wrote numbers 6 and 7 in journal, did a dinosaur directed drawing. Thursday- dinosaur addition, read My Dinosaur, dinosaur rhyming, and removed dinosaur from ice. May

Tuesday- #1-5 cut/paste and match, read Diary of a Fly, did frogs and flies math to look for ability to do simple addition, subitize, count objects, match number to objects. Wednesday- made name caterpillars, read Diary of a Spider, wrote numbers 4 and 5 in journal, did directed drawings of a ladybug and bee, simple math problems. Thursday- painted beehives with legos, read Diary of a Worm, did a rhyming assessment, built a ladybug/grasshopper/dragon fly, did ladybug math assessment. May
2-6- Teacher Appreciation Week 17- Messy Night 5:30-6:30 (outside) 27- last day of school dLast week we had fun doing Spring and Easter things. The pictures are from last week. This week was our 3 day week and we talked about bugs. We will talk more about them next week. Thursday- did dental screenings, did a recycling cut/paste sort, read Why Should We Recycle?, played two recycling games (great practice in turn taking and paying attention!), wrote numbers 2 and 3 in journal, drew a caterpillar and butterfly in journal, did more number practice to 5. Wednesday- farm playdough mats, read Giggle, Giggle, Quack, practiced compound words, wrote letter Z in journal, did a directed drawing of a duck. Thursday- made a paper plate cow, read Driving My Tractor, read Sheep in a Jeep , then did a rhyming activity, made density sensory bottles. The school system is not really designed to promote or encourage water intake. Ideally, pushing water intake with students and stressing the importance of water bottles to parents would be great. April

Monday- made a hand leprechaun, learned the sound and mouth action for /j/, looked at numbers 5-9. Tuesday- watercolor painted a shamrock, language group- made a leprechaun trap, did an ABC writing sample, introduced number 10. Wednesday- did Don't Wake the Bear sequence paper, wrote letter X in journal, counted to 10 in a line. Thursday- did a St. Patrick's Day color by letter coloring sheet, practiced rhyming, did magic rainbow colors baking soda and vinegar experiment. Enjoy your Spring Break and I will see you again on March 28! Helpful tip for kindergarten: Help your child be more independent in everything they do! Let them try to do things for themselves before offering/giving help. This helps your child learn persistence and gives them a sense of pride when they do something on their own. It will be so helpful next year in school, too! March

Tuesday- read Mr. Goat's Valentine, made a puzzle valentine, practiced stretching words, sorted candy hearts and practiced making tally marks. Wednesday- made a hand Valentine tree, read Never Mail an Elephant, practiced compound words, wrote the letter A in journal (start at the top- big line slide down, jump, big line slide down, little line across), counted objects to 8. Thursday- colored by number and made own valentine drawing, read a book about the post office and mail carriers, practiced rhyming, made a Newton's Disc, and practiced sorting objects and making tally marks to 8. For the next 2 weeks we will be talking about COLORS! Tuesday- cut and paste transportation sort, read On the Go, discussed different kinds of transportation, played with Beebot. Wednesday- made a vehicle with shapes, read Alphabet Trucks, practiced prepositions, wrote letter R in journal. Thursday- cut out circles to make stop light, read Dig, Dump, Roll, did rhyming trucks activity, experimented with which height ramp makes car go the farthest. February 11- bring a shareable snack by today- info coming home soon. 14- pass out Valentines during class - If you choose to send Valentine cards, please have your child write JUST their name on their cards. Right now there are 8 in the morning, soon to be 7 in afternoon. 22- Winter Conferences This was a short week and we did a study in "The Snowy Day". Monday- No School for Martin Luther King Jr. Day Tuesday- did a cut and paste mitten match, language group, made an anchor chart for the story- "What did Peter do in the snow"?, counted objects to 6 and 7. Wednesday- did a shaving cream "snow" painting showing an activity Peter did in the story, wrote the letter B in our journal, continued counting to 6 and 7. Thursday- did a cut and paste winter patterns page, acted out the story and retold as we went along, did a rhyming assessment, did a Snowy Day comprehension assessment, matched quantities to numbers. Tuesday- decorated a pair of mittens (they are on the bulletin board in the classroom), language group, read The Snowy Nap, cut out pictures of animals from The Mitten and glued them to a mitten, counted objects to 7 and practiced making tally marks. (1,2,3,4 then slide for 5). Wednesday- did a summer/winter clothes sort, read The Hat, wrote the letter P in our journal, did a sort by season with magnets, composed and decomposed numbers to 7 (5 and 1 are 6), and listened to song counting by 5. Thursday- made a snowman puzzle, read There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow, practiced rhyming with matching rhyming mittens activity, colored and graphed shapes, and made instant snow. Tuesday- Rudolph/red nose day- had language group, colored Rudolph, read The Gingerbread Bear, did a paint dotter letter match, described solid shapes. Wednesday- jingle bell day- made a finger paint light strand, read Ninjabread Man, wrote the letter J in journal, drew a gingerbread man in journal, compared 2D and 3D shapes. Thursday- cut out 1-10 tree puzzle, read The Gingerbread Pirates, rhyming practice, did gingerbread cookie in water experiment, went on a gingerbread man hunt. December

Each day we will read a different story and compare the characters. So far the gingerbread man and boy have got eaten by a fox. The gingerbread baby and girl got away! These books are also good for all the repetitive text. Monday- color by number picture, read The Gingerbread Man, reviewed mouth actions and sounds for letters m,n, f,v,p, and b, practiced letter recognition by feeding a gingerbread man letter gumdrops and compared circles. Tuesday- made a torn paper gingerbread (some colored theirs), have language group, read The Gingerbread Boy, practiced stretching sounds to make words, played a gingerbread counting game, and compared shapes. Wednesday- watercolor painted a gingerbread house, read The Gingerbread Baby, practiced blending sounds to make words, wrote the letter S in journal, and did a cut/glue gingerbread baby story sequence. I wanted to reach out regarding inclement weather days (aka AMI days) and how those days will look for Pre K students. On days that the district is closed due to weather conditions, I will still provide instruction to the students virtually. I will host 3 live Google class meetings throughout the day that I would like your child to join if possible. On “Alternate Method of Instruction- AMI” days I will also send 2 virtual assignments through the SeeSaw platform that your child can complete on a device as well as email a choice board home for students who may not have internet access throughout the day. Please work with your child on those days to complete the SeeSaw activities or items on the choice board. Please reach out if you have any questions regarding AMI days.
