We had a great week talking about dinosaurs! We talked a lot about the different dinosaurs and whether they were carnivores or herbivores. The kids were able to be paleontologists and dig for dinosaurs in the sand sensory table, really enjoyed playing with dinosaurs at center time, and had fun painting dinosaur pictures. In math, we practiced writing addition and subtraction problems, talked about the plus, minus and equal sign some more, and reiterated that when we add the number gets bigger/subtracting gets smaller. We read an emergent reader about color dinosaurs and spelled CVC words with letter tiles. They are getting good at hearing the sounds of the letters and putting them together to make a word. :) For science, the kids had to figure out how to get a dinosaur out of ice using salt, water and a popsicle stick. We did more writing and drawing in our journals. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!! Several kids asked what kind of treat Mrs. Brittany and I liked and the answer is DARK CHOCOLATE!
We had bug week this week. We learned that an insect has 3 body parts (head, thorax, abdomen), 2 eyes, a mouth, and 6 legs. Spiders are NOT insects! We did addition and subtraction and talked more about the plus and minus sign. We learned about the letter Y that acts like a vowel and a consonant. We drew pictures in our journal. Both classes earned an incentive party, so got to have pajama and stuffy day! Hope you have a great weekend!
This week we continued the farm theme. We practiced reading another emergent reader called "Who Is In the Tub?" and also practiced writing numbers to 6 and making addition problems. We had a fun week reading several versions of The Three Little Pigs, holding baby chicks that Mrs. Brittany brought to school, and singing/dancing with Dino O'Dell! We have 6 more weeks of PreK and these kids are looking like kindergarteners! It is exciting to see how much they have grown this year! May 16- Messy Night! May 23- Last Day of School Yearbooks are here! Get your copy if you haven't already!
If you already ordered, they will be coming home soon. Yearbooks cost $13.00. Last week we tried to read. They used picture cards for the first two days- we looked at the first letter of the animal and listened for the sound it made to figure out which one I was asking them for. The third day they used only the word cards. We also read our predictable book each day and on the third day they read it to a partner. They did a really good job! This week we have Dino O'Dell coming on Friday for the last hour of class.
Mrs. Brittany is also bringing in some of her baby chicks for farm week on Thursday! I hope everyone has a fun and safe spring break!
I will look forward to seeing the kids again on April 2! We had a fun week talking about leprechauns and St. Patrick's Day! Ms. GoodwinHi! This is my 13th year as a PreK teacher at RayPec. I was an ECSE para here at RayPec before that. I also taught preschool for 7 years while my 4 kids were growing up, so I could stay home with them. I love the color green, dark chocolate, taking pictures, exploring nature, spending time with my family, doing puzzles, and listening to music. I look forward to a great year with your child!!
